Dental Crowns

A damaged or decayed tooth can be painful and unsightly, but a custom dental crown can help protect your tooth and restore your oral function.

Explore how our dental experts at NÜVA Smile can help you achieve a healthier, more attractive smile with dental crowns in New Jersey.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a porcelain “shell” that covers all parts of a tooth visible above the gumline. Porcelain crowns are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth to address issues such as:

Damaged Teeth

A dental crown can strengthen and protect a damaged tooth while preserving its structure. It also improves the appearance of your smile by concealing cracks, chips, and deep stains.

Tooth Decay

During a root canal, an opening is made in the tooth to remove tooth decay and infected tissue. Following treatment, a dental crown is used to fortify the tooth and protect it from further harm.

One Missing Tooth

If you're missing a single tooth, a porcelain dental crown paired with a denta

implant can permanently fill in the gap and restore the function of your smile.

Multiple Missing Teeth

For patients with several consecutive missing teeth, we can place a dental bridge, which uses dental crowns to anchor the artificial teeth in place.

Dental Implants:

The Gold Standard for Tooth Replacement

Dental implants offer numerous unique benefits. They are the only treatment in dentistry that can stop the jawbone deterioration that occurs when teeth are lost, as well as the only solution for replacing teeth from root to crown.

The Benefits of Dental Crowns

Restored Function

Damaged or decayed teeth can make it difficult to chew or speak comfortably. A dental crown restores the function of a compromised tooth, allowing you to eat and express yourself with ease once more.

Restored Appearance

Dental crowns are made of porcelain and are shade-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, so it will be hard to tell that you ever had a damaged, decayed, or missing tooth once treatment is complete.

Our loyalty plan allows patients to pay one low price and receive cleanings, exams, X-rays, and even discounts on other needed dental procedures.

Financing

Our New Jersey dentists provide in-house financing. We also accept CareCredit® financing to break the cost of treatment into affordable monthly payments.

Insurance

We accept most insurance plans to reduce or even eliminate your out-of-pocket costs. We will verify your coverage before treatment begins.

Dental Crown Treatment Timeline

Consultation

During your initial consultation at one of our New Jersey locations, your dentist will examine your mouth to determine if a crown is the right dental treatment for you.

One of the most versatile treatments in dentistry, a porcelain crown offers both restorative and cosmetic benefits.

Preparatory Treatment

If you need preparatory treatment such as implnt placement or a root canal, this must be performed first. You must also be free of other dental concerns, such as gum disease, before your crown is placed.

Anesthetic

Before your dental crown treatment begins, your dentist will thoroughly numb the area. For those who need an extra level of comfort care, we also offer sedation options to ensure you are completely comfortable.

Tooth Prep

Once you are thoroughly numbed, your dentist will prep the tooth. The tooth is reshaped to allow the crown to fit snugly and blend with your natural teeth.

Impressions

Your dentist will take impressions of your mouth so we can craft your dental crown. These impressions are sent to our lab.

Temporary Crown

You will have a lifelike temporary crown placed over the tooth while the lab crafts your permanent crown.

Permanent Crown

Once your permanent crown is ready, you will have another appointment where your dentist will remove the temporary crown and bond your permanent crown in place.

All that is left to do is enjoy your new smile. Contact us to get started!

The tooth is carefully shaped to allow the crown to fit properly and not rub or irritate your gums.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Dental Crowns

Q. Why not pull damaged or decayed teeth instead?

A. Even a single missing tooth can cause your other teeth to shift, and it can cause jawbone deterioration as well. Whenever possible, it is best to preserve the tooth structure to prevent the need for more extensive dentistry treatments, like orthodontics or dental implants.

Q. How long will a dental crown last?

A. With proper care and maintenance, a porcelain dental crown from our NJ dentists can last for up to 15 years or more. However, it will wear over time and will eventually need to be replaced.

Q. What is the difference between a crown and a tooth cap?

A. There is no difference! A “cap” is simply an older term for a dental crown. You can refer to them either way, and our dentists will know what you're talking about.

Q. What do I do if my dental crown comes loose or falls out?

A. Your dental crown will be bonded into place with a safe and durable dental cement. However, if the crown becomes loose or falls out, try to find and preserve it, and then contact us immediately. If the crown is not damaged, your dentist may be able to bond it back into place.
